Yogareg.com came about serendipitously. As a small company based in Mount Airy, MD, we had been working mostly on large systems used by state governments to help manage their highways and the traffic that slows them to a crawl during rush hour. These systems are very complex, and in working on them for thirteen years, we have gained design and technical skills only held by a small percentage of those in the software profession. We are passionate about software development and always wanted to build a product that we could call our own.
On our daily lunch-time walks we often discussed product ideas and debated whether every piece of software needed by the public had already been invented. We knew we had the skills and experience to write any software application that could be imagined; we just couldn't find that one good idea worth pursuing.
Then along came Mary. Mary was the office manager for a large yoga studio in the Washington, DC area, and also happened to be related to one of our employees. When Mary's studio got frustrated with the constant crashes and limitations of the leading yoga registration software, her studio, led by their chief technical guru and webmaster, went on an exhaustive search for new software to manage their student and registration data. When their search turned up without any software that met their needs, Mary thought "my brother-in-law works for a software company ... I bet he can whip something up for us".
We're not sure if a year and a half in the making can be classified as "whipping something up," but in that time Mary's studio expressed to us every need and desire in a system, and we listened. With the studio providing the requirements and testing, and our company providing the design and development, we cooperated to make a system that is truly built with the end-user in mind, and crafted with the skills and tools employed on multi-million dollar projects. Over the past 10 years, we have continued to listen to our customers and the system has evolved several times each year to incorporate ideas from our users.
